VOLUNTEER SERVICE
We have established and developed very good
relationships with non-governmental and independent organizations in Florianópolis, resulting in some great volunteer project possibilities. The project is selected
based on the profile of the volunteer to make the best possible match.

THE PROJECTS
Fundação Vidal Ramos, based in Florianópolis, is a non-for-prot organization that works hard to keep
children away from the streets. They help about 300 children with two projects, supervised by a specialist in educational orientation. The children ages vary from
6 up to 12-years-old. The main tasks for the volunteer will be to help teachers with educational and recreational activities and also to help the children and teachers keeping the room clean and organized.

COEPAD, is a Workers with Disability Cooperative Group that aims to promote and incentive the work of its attendees.They manufacture notepads, folders and a whole bunch of other products using the paper that
they helped to recycle. The revenue they get from selling these products is used to improve their work conditions and also to pay their salaries. From recycling the paper to manufactoring and selling the products or even in administrative roles, there is a lot to be done by the volunteers at COEPAD.

Parque Municipal da Lagoa do Peri, is located in the southeast portion of the Santa Catarina Island, stretched around one of the last living remains of the Atlantic Forest. The park covers an area of approximately 20km2, containing the largest fresh water lagoon (5km2) of the
state coast.
The Peri Lagoon was declared Natural Heritage in June of 1976, being registered as a Municipal Park in 1982, with the purpose of: protect its natural resources; to maintain the Azorean culture and also
provide a space for environmental education for local communities and students of public and private schools of Florianópolis. Some example of tasks that volunteers can perform at the park are:
• Prepare the soil that will be used to plant the seeds;
• Prepare and handle seed trays;
• Lift and move seedlings to larger spaces or plastic containers used to transport them;
• Collect seeds of local and endemic tree/plant species;
• Transport saplings to be planted in designated areas inside or outside of the Park.

ACCOMMODATION
We can offer you two types of accommodation here in Florianópolis. You can stay with one of our selected host families or rent a place to stay. In our host families you will be welcome and treated as a family member. We will keep in touch with you and your
family throughout your stay to assure that you both have a rewarding homestay experience. This type of accommodation is an excellent way to practice your portuguese and get a deeper taste of the local culture.
But, if you prefer a more independent accommodation we can assist you on looking for a good option of flat, house, hostel or small hotel with easy access to the project you will work at and to public transportation.
The prices and payments schedules may vary from one type of accommodation to another. Note that if you choose this type of accommodation you will be responsible to pay and solve directly any issues related to the chosen accommodation.

All participants are required to arrive during the weekend, in a Saturday or Sunday. After being picked up at the airport by your host family or one of our staff me mbers and rested for one or two days, getting the
first taste of Brazil and Florianópolis, its time to meet your local coordinator for a cross-cultural orientation.
In this meeting you will discuss your first impressions of the homestay (if applicable) and also other topics like health and security measures, Brazilian cultural aspects,transportation systems and conditions, staff to contact in case of emergencies, procedures regarding language classes(if applicable), volunteer work and
any other doubt you might have about the whole program. A complete orientation guide with useful information will be given to you at this time.

STUDY PORTUGUESE IN BRAZIL

Program Description:
THE PORTUGUESE COURSE
Our partner schools have both been teaching portuguese as a second language for more than 10 years. We offer two types of Portuguese course, an intensive and a semi-intensive course, always in a private classes basis. Special arrangements can be done for group classes. On either the intensive course (15 hour/lessons per week program) or the semi-intensive (10 hour/lessons per week program) you can choose between the afternoon or the morning, so you can have the rest of the day free to explore the island and the surroundings; or to combine your language course with the sport or activity of their interest. All the courses have basic, intermediate and advanced levels. You will be evaluated on your first day and your teacher will tell which level you are in.

SPORTS
The most popular sports among our students are Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Surfing, Football and Capoeira (brazilian martial art/dance). All classes depend on weather condition, and all the equipment will be
provided by the school.
